I’m sure you have heard this before. The only constant is change. Changes, in any aspect of life, are inevitable. 🥺

So what are the changes that a primary school baller will face as he enters a secondary school setting? 🤔

💫For a start, let’s examine the main difference in rules. In primary school, there are no 3-pointers provisions, even if you make a shot outside the 3-point arc. Its purpose is to encourage players to make shots nearer to the basket, improving basic shooting techniques like completing lay ups and mid-range shots. ⚡The basket (rim height) is also higher in secondary school.

☀ 9 players get to play at least 10 minutes in primary school competitions. This rule allows a greater participation opportunity for players in general. In secondary school competition, a coach can start and finish the game with only 5 players. Many coaches have great confidence in their starting 5 and possibly 1 or 2 reserves. 😫The other reserves down the bench have to earn their playing time the hard way.

☝To be well prepared for the next level, building strong fundamentals in your skills will be your ticket to success. Passing, dribbling and shooting: the 3 basic skills of basketball. However, one might ask, ”What if my primary school does not offer basketball as a CCA?” Or “Basketball is not one of the niche areas of my primary school.” 😱Under such circumstances, how can I fully develop and hone my skills sufficiently for me to be playing a bigger role in secondary school?😣

🤓Fret not. At SG Basketball, our strong team of full-time experienced coaches will guide and equip you with the necessary tools to excel both at primary and secondary school level basketball. This is evident from the countless number of trophies our trainees have won at each level and the high number of successful DSA (Direct School Admission) applicants we have assisted.

🙌 Through rigorous training sessions and a training programme tailor-made to suit your child’s needs, we will help you to overcome the transition with confidence and ease. 💪
